Likeability in Design

"Kids don't learn from people they don't like." - Rita Pierson

Championing for the learner, and for the technology being proposed is hard work. One has to dig deep to help ones learners to synthesize the material while simultaneously cheerleading for the lesson content and convincing them in the delivery. Doing that day in and day out, well, it wears on instructors and teachers. But as the formidable Rita Pierson says, kids don't learn from people they don't like, and the same rings true for adult learners. How does an instructor deliver content that is necessary, but not exactly exciting, in a likeable and relatable way? How does an instructor infuse likeability into unlikeable content? How does an instructional designer draw learners in even with dry content?
