Technology Facilitator

What does innovation look like?

Growth and change. Innovation means drawing from skillsets that we don't personally have and surrounding yourself with people who know what they are doing. Tapping into the wells of existing knowledge that the SMEs possess. Innovation is always asking yourself what expertise isn't being utilized in a realm or subject that could be helpful, and that no one is talking about or utilizing. Innovation is understanding visual appeal and marketing and user experience, and giving people an automatic positive association with the content. Understanding we are all visually connected and wired. Innovation is superficial, and not in a negative sense. Our instincts tell us what is quality content or product, and the visual platform is the vessel. The valuable of visual appeal is so in our faces, especially when it's not our realm. Innovation means questioning ones blind spots. We are not taught to question ourselves, so having the ability to remove emotion from the equation and look at our blind spots that make us uncomfortable. Innovation is looking at anything and saying, "what's missing."?

What is not innovation?

Stagnation is not innovation. Assuming you're right, and stopping to ask questions . Doing nothing. Innovation is inevitable because change is inevitable. Evolution is taking the reins of innovation, and its inevitability. Doing nothing and not innovating is virtually impossible.

With an idea of what innovation looks like, what should the role of a technology facilitator look like?

A technology facilitator champions technology. They are an avid technofile and keep up with the latest publications and readings. They live on CNET, PCmag and TechCrunch. They help others overcome their fear or apathy toward technology, and communicate its usefulness and best implementations to the layman.

  1. Hi Amanda,

You did an outstanding job on your graphics. For me, the most powerful phrase and depiction of a technology facilitator in your graphics is the enthusiastic mentor, because it is the prefect summation of what a technology facilitator looks like. You conveyed your idea very clearly in your depiction of the "mentor/technology facilitator" higher up the stairs holding a victory flag on one hand and on the other hand clutching the hand of the "learner", encouraging the learner to take the next step, and guiding them along the way.
